The author of the blog, Dr. Katelyn Jetelina, “translates” the ever-evolving public health science so that people will be well equipped to make evidence-based decisions.
In this article she nicely highlights the diagnosed case of polio with paralysis that was made this past week in New York, as well as detection of the polio virus in wastewater in the UK. She explains the fact that not all countries use a killed/attenuated vaccine, which can slough in the gut leading to detection of polio virus in cities/countries, and if being unvaccinated can cause disease as seen in this case
